We wanted to follow up our debut Linkdex Stories animation with another so you’d get a better idea of where we want to take the series and perhaps inspire you to contribute your own script for us to animate. The result was “What is SEO?” An animated scene inspired by the Matrix where SEOpheus offers our hero Matteo the red or blue pill as he looks to discover what SEO is.
Needless to say we had so much fun making the video, it’s not felt like real work for days. Ready to find out more about Search Engine Optimization?
Here’s a short extract from the full animation script:
I can see it in your eyes.
You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he’s expecting to wake up.
Ironically, this is not far from the truth.
Do you believe in fate?
[Mateo shakes his head]
Because I don’t like the idea that I’m not in control of my rankings.
I know exactly what you mean.
Let me tell you why you’re here.
You’re here because you know something.
What you know you can’t explain.
You’ve felt it for a while, that there’s something wrong with your online strategy.
You don’t know what it is, but it’s there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.
Do you know what I’m talking about?
Do you want to know what SEO is?
[Mateo Nods His Head]
SEO is everywhere.
It is all around us.
You can see it every time you turn on your PC.
You can see it when you go to work… when you go to home… when you pay your taxes.
It is the online world that has been pulled over your eyes by search engines to blind you from the truth.
That you are blind.
Blind to knowing the algorithm that powers each of the billions of phrases used to find the world around us.
Blind to knowing what the size of your own SEO opportunity is and whether you’re investing the optimal amount in your SEO team.
Blind to knowing which parts of what you are doing to improve your rankings is working.
And blind to what your competitors are doing each month to take the share of the search results you want to own.
Unfortunately, no one can be told what SEO is. You have to see it for yourself.
There’s even more in the video to smile over if you haven’t watched it already.
I hope you enjoy the animation. If you contribute your own script and we animate it we’ll pay you $250 and have as much fun as we’re having writing them and watching your ideas come to life.
Send your script to animate [@] linkdex.com to enter the competition. Entrants can submit multiple entries but please follow the guidelines below.
The script must be the original work of the entrant. It can not contain offensive content or act as a company promotion. The script should not refer to actual people without the prior consent of the people in question. The author takes fully responsibility for the content of the script. We would hate for your script to appear elsewhere before we’ve had a chance to animate it, therefore by submitting a script you assign full copyright to Linkdex and it can only be reproduced by Linkdex unless we authorise otherwise. If we’re not going to use your script we’ll do our best to let you know.
A special thanks should also go to an SEO agency based in London called….wait for it….Red or Blue Digital for reminding me of the scene and suggesting it could be used.
Finally, if you’re one of few people left in the world not to have seen The Matrix was written by The Wachowski Brothers you really do need to. And of course all copyright remains with Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow.
